About the Event

SEA is excited to offer a university-level Chinese Art History course taught by Julie Chun, Adjunct Professor of Art History, where we will explore the material culture from the Neolithic Era to the present times through monthly thematic studies. These one-hour lectures will be followed by discussions to provide an over-arching introduction and an immense insight not merely about Chinese art but also its culture and history.  

  

For our second session, we will hold a thoughtful sit-down lecture on the topic of ancient bronze cultures of China’s Shang and Zhou dynasties. We will underscore and discuss the emergence and the eventual decline of prominent bronze vessels. This art historical session will help explain why the material culture of bronze have been and still remain so critically important in China’s societies of the past and present.
