About the Event
Xieyihua 写意画, or freehand brushwork, is the essence of Chinese painting. This course will show us the characteristics, tools, and materials of xieyi, and teach us how to create our own Chinese brush-style painting. With the tools of a soft tip brush, rice paper, and ink, we will learn the methods to create a xieyi painting, without a draft. Qi Baishi (1864-1957) was the greatest artist of xieyi painting in modern China, and examples of his work are one of the best teaching tools for people learning xieyi. Teacher Ted will help us create a traditional brushwork painting suitable for framing.
