About the Event

Starting from the 2000s, the wealth of the rising class of newly rich Chinese has led to a surge in art collection. Surpassing European countries, China is now the second leader in the acquisition of contemporary art by private collectors (US still holds the number one leading position.) What impels them to collect? Is it the love of the art or the love of the investment? Who are these collectors? What do they collect? And are the purchases mostly through the primary or the secondary market?

Join Art Historian and Art Critic Julie Chun, who has published articles and lectured about the monetary aspects of art, covering art fairs and the commercial workings of the art industry as the Adjunct Professor at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Follow Julie to a rare public exhibition showcasing the immense private collection of one of the important founders of the pivotal annual art fair in Shanghai - ART 021. Julie has interviewed the collector and has witnessed the rise and the fall and the rise yet again of the Cc Foundation. This is a most unique exhibition, unlike any event in Shanghai, which you will not want to miss as the exhibition will close 2 days after SEA’s private visit.
