DAY TRIP: Fengjing Water Town and Donglin Monastery
Time & Location
About the Event
Ancient towns are representative of the local ancient culture and, in the old town of Fengjing, this culture is represented by water, bridges, and ancient dwellings. Join us on this day trip to Fengjing, located 70 km southwest of Shanghai and with a history of more than 700 years. The village has 39 ancient Ming and Qing dynasty bridges that cross the river, long narrow lanes, red lanterns swaying under the eaves, wooden boats, tea houses, and grannies weaving bamboo baskets – we will feel lost in time.
We will also visit nearby Donglin Monastery, originally known as Guanyin Hall. In its 700-year history it has experienced wars, fires and reconstruction. Rebuilt and expanded in 2007, it now houses the largest indoor Buddha statue in Asia, which is about 34 meters high.
