Bike Riding Group
Meet. Ride. Explore. Repeat. Join our guided group rides and explore buzzing neighborhoods, hidden gems, and local favorites across the city. Whether you’re new in town or have lived here for years, this is a fun and social way to experience Shanghai from a fresh perspective. No need to have your own bike; simply use one of the city’s shared bikes.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Book Club
If you are a book lover and enjoy an engaging discussion about what you’ve read, this is the group for you! The Book Club meets on the last Monday morning of each month. Location and time will be announced in advance. We meet at restaurants or coffee shops and share the responsibility of leading the discussion.
Welcome Coffee Mornings
Catch up with fellow SEA members over coffee, tea, or breakfast on the second Monday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Enjoy engaging conversations, strengthen existing friendships, and make new connections.
Rather than a traditional group, Welcome Coffee Mornings are a regular gathering open to SEA members looking to connect and socialize.
Craft-a-noon
Ready for some creative fun? On the first Wednesday of each month, bring your own project and supplies to one of various inspiring locations around Shanghai. Draw, paint, knit, crochet, write, or create whatever you like. We exchange ideas and techniques while enjoying a relaxed and social afternoon together.
Golf Group
If you’re a golf enthusiast, this group is for you. Meet weekly on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and play with other like-minded expats. Beginners and experienced players are welcome, whether you want to learn how to play or improve your game.
International Women’s Choir
The International Women’s Choir meets at various members’ homes every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM. This is a fun, no-audition-required group, and conductors, instrumentalists, and piano players are welcome too. Meet new friends while enjoying singing together.
Mahjong
There are two mahjong meet-ups each week: one in Puxi every Friday from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM and another in Pudong every Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
The Mahjong Groups are a great way to meet more SEA members while learning a game that plays an important role in Chinese culture and everyday life. Feel free to join both groups if you wish. Beginners are very welcome!
Must See’s Group Chat
This group is a platform to share and discover the best of Shanghai and beyond, from hidden gems and local favorites to great getaways and travel tips around China.

Photography Group
Let’s explore photography together in creative and inspiring ways! The Photography Group meets on the last Thursday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. We experiment with different themes and formats, including playful challenges, technical workshops, neighborhood walks, and exhibitions. Along the way, we share skills, exchange ideas and feedback, and discover new ways of seeing and capturing Shanghai and beyond. All experience levels are welcome, whether you use a camera or a smartphone.
Pickleball Group
Want to be active and have fun playing a team sport? There are two pickleball meet-ups each week: one in Puxi (Racket Sports Group) every Monday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and another in Pudong every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
No experience is necessary; simply learn as you play. Equipment is available at each location, and players share the small cost of court hire. Feel free to join both groups if you wish.
The Lunch Bunch
Good food is even better when shared! Join The Lunch Bunch and discover some of the wonderful restaurants Shanghai has to offer while catching up with fellow SEA members and making new connections. We meet on the third Monday of each month from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Just Walk Group
Come join our Just Walk Group! We meet for casual walks where the focus is on good conversation, fresh air, and making connections. Whether you’re looking for new friends, a little exercise, or simply some good company, this group is for you. Lace up your shoes, bring your smile, and let’s walk, talk, and grow friendships together!
What’s Cooking Group
Tired of making the same old thing over and over again for dinner? Join the What’s Cooking Group, where Joey shares a new recipe each day. Members can also share their favorite recipes with others in the group.
This is currently a WeChat group with occasional hands-on cooking experiences.
Veggie Lovers Group
This informal group is for exploring the plant-based lifestyle in Shanghai. We meet approximately once a month to try vegan or vegetarian restaurants, attend events, or cooking classes pertaining to a veggie lifestyle. We also share information, recipes and support. If you are plant-based, vegan, vegetarian or just like to try new food, please join! This is currently a WeChat group.
