Small Groups
To join a SEA Small Group activity, you must be a SEA member. SEA is always looking for new group ideas and members to lead these small groups. Please contact SEA@shanghaisea.com with your suggestions or questions.
International Women's Choir
The International Women's Choir meets at various members homes, every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is a "no-audition required," fun group. Conductors, instrumentalists, and piano players are welcome too. Meet new friends while enjoying singing. For more information please contact us at SEA@shanghaisea.com.
Mahjong
This group meets in Puxi every Friday from 12 PM to 2 PM. The Mahjong group is a great way to meet more SEA members while learning a new game that plays a large part of Chinese everyday life. Book Club
If you are a book lover and enjoy an intellectual discussion about what you've read, this is the group for you! The book club meets monthly on Monday mornings. Location and time will be announced in advance. We meet at restaurants or coffee shops and share the responsibility of leading the discussion. Knit, Crochet, and Natter
This informal group meets weekly on Wednesdays at 12:30 PM - 3PM at Meebo Cafe, No. 1468 Hongqiao Road. We welcome all skill levels and all fiber crafts, such as crochet, knit, tat, and embroidery. Everyone will bring their own project and supplies. We exchange ideas, techniques, and socialize. Photography Group
Let’s explore photography together in creative and inspiring ways! This group meets monthly on Thursdays to experiment with different themes and formats, from playful challenges and technical workshops to neighborhood walks and exhibitions. We share skills, exchange feedback, and capture Shanghai (and beyond) through many perspectives. All levels of photography are welcome, whether you use a camera or a smartphone. Veggie Lovers Group
This informal group is for exploring the plant-based lifestyle in Shanghai. We meet approximately once a month to try vegan or vegetarian restaurants, attend events, or cooking classes pertaining to a veggie lifestyle. This group is also for information, recipe sharing, and support. If you are plant-based, vegan, vegetarian or just like to try new food, please join! Racket Sports
Pickleball is played every Monday from 9–11 AM at rotating locations. On Tuesdays, the group meets from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Shanghai Stadium (1111 Cao Xi Bei Rd., Xuhui) for doubles games. Players share court fees and balls, and the group is best suited for intermediate level and above. To join, please contact SEA@shangaisea.com to be added to the WeChat group. Other racket sports are organized based on member interest.
Running Group
Join our new beginner-friendly running group—no experience required. Open to all ages and fitness levels, the group offers run sessions in a safe and welcoming space where encouragement replaces pressure.
