About the Event
Due to high demand for this tour we are offering it again this month!
“There was a time when maps of the world were redrawn in the name of plants, when two empires, Britain and China, went to war over two flowers…” So begins our lesson from Shanghai and Beyond as we sample our way around Shanghai's most iconic tea market while hearing the fascinating story of how England changed the way the world drinks. The story is one of politics, science, and espionage! We'll retrace the path of botanist Robert Fortune as he dressed in disguise to unravel the secrets of the tea bush and its closely guarded production secrets. Taste the forerunners of English breakfast tea and compare the flavors with what’s trending on Chinese tea palates. We will also sample unique snacks.
