About the Event
The first of this two-part series will focus on the differentiation of modern and contemporary art. For part one, Julie Chun (Adjunct Professor Art History) will provide an overview of modernism at the Tushanwan Museum. Within the historical context of a Jesuit established craft school in Shanghai, we will examine the notable factors that define the construct of modern art in China and how it differs from the western canon. The critical junction of where traditional and modern art crossed will be closely discussed so that we can transition onto part two in March about the meaning of contemporary art. Both sessions will be conducted as a seminar so please bring an inquisitive and open mind as well as relevant
questions on the topic.
