About the Event

As part of our ongoing 2024-2025 SEA series, Survey of Art in China, we invite you to join us for an in-depth exploration of the concept and construction of “public art” in Shanghai. What does the term truly mean? How does public art in Shanghai compare or contrast with similar efforts in cities around the world?

For over seven-years, Julie Chun (Adjunct Professor of Art History) has been researching, documenting, interviewing and publishing on this topic. Her work has been presented at international conferences and featured in journals in London, Vancouver, and Shanghai.

Join us and experience a thoughtful walk through the expansive Jing’an Sculpture Park in the crisp autumn air as we examine the many dimensions of how art engages with the public and strives to be “public.”
