About the Event
Long before kinetic sculpture was widely accepted in the art world, the Korean artist Choe U-ram was literally tinkering with the mechanics of movable sculpture. Dedicating his entire life to understanding, constructing, and constantly fine-tuning (while forced to keep up with the latest technology), Choe U-ram is not only a pioneer in this field, but also the leading artist of our current period in this unique genre of art. It is a rare treat for us to experience the Korean master’s work in Shanghai, his first solo exhibition in China, that has been hailed as sophisticated, powerful, and mesmerizing. Join Art Historian Julie Chun on an afternoon of exploration in the picturesque part of Shanghai at Panlong Ancient Watertown (not far from the Hongqiao area), where the Yuz Museum has relocated, to better understand the new heights of kinetic art.
