About the Event

Many long-term residents of Shanghai feel that they know the basic background of the Bund, but what about the history of the many historic buildings just a block or two off Shanghai’s signature riverside promenade? In the shadow of the Bund lie sprawling nineteenth-century apartment houses, stunning Art Deco banks, Shanghai’s preeminent Anglican church, and the imposing Neoclassical edifice that housed the government of the former International Settlements – the Shanghai Municipal Council. Schools, clubs, courthouses – they all lie just a stone’s throw from the Huangpu River. Historic Shanghai founder Patrick Cranley will share the stories of the people who built, worked in, and lived in these important legacies of old Shanghai. Join us for this fascinating walk!
