About the Event
Join Tim Chambers for a guided tour exploring the Shanghai filming locations of Empire of the Sun (1987), directed by Steven Spielberg. This is the first time he is offering this tour, making it a special opportunity to visit key sites featured in the film, including areas along the Bund, Suzhou Creek, and near People’s Square, and see the movie’s scenes come to life.
Based on J. G. Ballard’s semi-autobiographical novel, Empire of the Sun tells the story of a young British boy, Jim Graham (played by Christian Bale), who is separated from his parents during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai in World War II. Through Jim’s perspective, the film captures themes of resilience, survival, and the loss of innocence.
