About the Event

Chinese calligraphy has a long history, from the oracle bone script over 3,000 years ago to the seal script over 2,000 years ago to the regular script we still use today. There are many types of script, each with its own unique characteristics and beauty. The art of calligraphy is a unique method of writing with a brush in ancient China. It not only has the function of writing and recording but also has an artistic appreciation.

During this workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese calligraphy's historical development, and learn about the perspectives and methods of the Chinese calligrapher. In addition, you will have the opportunity to write the pictured calligraphy work to experience the beauty of ancient Chinese characters and calligraphy art by writing your own piece using an oracle script or seal script.

“Knowledge as action”(zhī xíng hé yī), which isa philosophical theory put forward by the ideologist Wang Shouren (Wang Yangming) in Ming Dynasty. It means that knowledge of the truth is inextricably bound up with practice. Wang Yangming's "The study of the mind" theory is one of the important thoughts in ancient Chinese philosophy.

The workshop will be led by Summer Xu, founder of Art de Summer Space, holds a master's degree in arts and is a certified Chinese teacher by the China Confucius Institute.
