About the Event
The buzzing port city of Shanghai offered traders a safe haven and opportunity to grow, but missionaries also took advantage of this open place for goods and beliefs. Many nations, cultures, beliefs, and views came together and tried to find their spot.
North of Suzhou creek, American missionaries founded the “American Settlement” with churches, schools, and social institutions. Americans, Germans, Japanese, and Chinese lived cramped together on swampy ground.
Join us and explore this area with Carolin Billetter from China Culture Consulting. Some former churches have been turned into residences or a night club but are still meeting places and social hubs; and this is what makes this place unique and worth a visit!
