About the Event
What are the recognized religions in China? How are religious institutions managed here? What are the basic tenets of these faiths, and how are they practiced in China? Religion is a controversial topic in many societies, and Chinese society is no exception. During this walk, Historic Shanghai founder Patrick Cranley will lead us to mosques, churches, and temples that are tucked out of sight in downtown Shanghai and explain their histories and current activities. Along the way, we will see how these places of worship fit into their neighborhoods, and what their prospects are as the city continues its relentless urban transformation.
