About the Event
Led by Julie Chun (Adjunct Professor of Art History), we will go back in time to the years following the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864). In Shanghai, a major transformation took place where art took a turn towards modernism at the most unexpected of places. Although now converted into a cultural museum, the history of this special institution will highlight an important aspect of Shanghai’s local history that remains unknown even to many Chinese people.
