About the Event
Many Shanghai residents know the short length of Julu Lu that is stocked with bars, boutiques, and restaurants but are curious about the interesting homes and lanes outside of those places of business. On this two-hour walk along the leafy streets of the Former French Concession, Historic Shanghai’s Patrick Cranley will take us into the lanes and explain who built the gracious buildings along the street, all of them used for other purposes in today’s Shanghai. Along the way, we’ll visit: a German hospital, an automobile dealership, a tycoon’s mansion, a humble farmhouse, a retreat for a Catholic order, the home of the president of the Shanghai Municipal Council, and a secret training center for Communist radio operators. Join us as we unlock the mysteries of Julu Lu!
