About the Event
Situated just outside the former Foreign Settlements, Yuyuan Road was a favorite of the Chinese elite, a leafy oasis where tycoons of industry built sprawling mansions, gangsters ran outrageous clubs and casinos, and underground Communists plotted revolution. Chinese architects designed residential lanes and villas in a medley of styles – Mediterranean, Art Deco, Neo-classical, Ming Revival – for real estate magnates, banking families, a notorious traitor, the king of Chinese jazz music, and many more. Join us and Historic Shanghai’s president Patrick Cranley, on a pleasant walk surrounded by stories and scenes along one of the city’s most interesting roads.
